The Family as a Kingdom

Childhood 15a

The photograph above is an exquisite image of my family in which four generations are present. Standing at extreme left in the back row is my father who has taken the snap through timer in Adox 120 camera. I have my grandfather and my great grand parents along with uncles aunts and cousins in this photograph.

Each one is a living entity in my memory. Some have died, but their death does not make any difference. Like a river with many rivulets, each one exists in my consciousness.

The Harvest Tunes

It is a pleasure to come back to the blog after a long time. In the mean time I have published my book of poems The Harvest Tunes which has propelled me to get in touch with my old blogs and friends in the virtual world. My poems have the world as a canvas with themes set in Tokyo, Bangkok and Spain. I hope some people would like it. Here is a link for the  book. http://m.barnesandnoble.com/c/jashobanta%20panda/0

Grand Théâtre de Genève

Image

This is another great monument at Place de Neuve, Geneva. It was opened in 1876 and through its long history had been partly destroyed by fire in 1951, and was reopened in 1962.

The main facade has eight busts representing Rossini, Boieldieu, Beethoven, Meyerbeer, Weber, Mozart, and Donizetti and the famous writer—and occasionally composer—Jean-Jacques Rousseau. Inaugurated in 1789 with Rossini’s William Tell, many great performances would have taken place in the Theatre.

Geneva on a Rainy Day

Image

Even as people were arriving at Geneva airport in large numbers for skiing and jumping in to SUVs with skiing gears tied to the top of the vehicles, I moved in to the city for a tour on this rainy day. The building above, The Conservatoire de musique de Genève  founded by François Bartholoni in 1835, is at the place de Neuve. The is the institution where Franz List had taught in its year of inaguration.

This is a beautiful sculpture in a niche at the facade of the building. This great institution has celebrated 175 years. Standing in front, I had that feeling of elation when you  have the sense of history.
