This is another great monument at Place de Neuve, Geneva. It was opened in 1876 and through its long history had been partly destroyed by fire in 1951, and was reopened in 1962.

The main facade has eight busts representing Rossini, Boieldieu, Beethoven, Meyerbeer, Weber, Mozart, and Donizetti and the famous writer—and occasionally composer—Jean-Jacques Rousseau. Inaugurated in 1789 with Rossini’s William Tell, many great performances would have taken place in the Theatre.
